The Comet Hartford, CT
1984-?. At first glance, it looked like some teen angst kid asking "Mom? Dad? Can I have a party in the basement?!" The Club was in the basement of re-habbed stainless steel 50s-esque diner, aka the Comet. No Air-conditioning. Strong Drinks. Booths and fishtanks (complete with nuclear reactor motifs) were removed to increase capacity of this tiny club. Music ranged from pop-"Like a Virgin" to self-conscious "How Soon is Now." New Order "the Beach/Blue Monday" -always. Big with the PIB crowd (people in black) art students, closet cases, a goth or two, the very curious collegiate crowd for a few years before RIOT started. The 80s ended and so did the Comet.
